Hide Signatures and Initials in PDF Files
Stop handwritten signatures from being copied or reused when you share signed PDFs.
Signed PDFs are proof of agreement—but the signature image itself can be extracted and pasted onto other documents. When you share a countersigned contract, settlement letter, or authorization form, you may need the terms visible while hiding signatures and initials that could be misused. Cropping is brittle; proper redaction removes the signature graphic permanently from the distributed copy.
HidePDF lets you hide signatures in PDF files by drawing black boxes over ink strokes, stamp images, and /Sig appearances. Process locally in your browser with no upload, then distribute a version that shows the deal without handing recipients a reusable signature asset.
How HidePDF works
Open the signed PDF
Load the document in the redaction tool on this page. Your signed file stays on your device.
Locate every signature appearance
Check last pages, initials on margins, and digital stamp overlays—not just the main signature block.
Black out signature regions
Draw boxes covering full signature images and adjacent metadata lines if needed.
Verify before wider sharing
Download and confirm signature graphics cannot be selected or copied from the export.
Guide: Protecting Handwritten and Digital Signatures in Shared PDFs
Signature fraud often starts with a legitimate document. A PDF forwarded for reference may include a high-resolution scan of a handwritten signature sufficient to forge authorizations. Hiding signatures in PDF files before publication—on websites, in discovery, or in customer portals—reduces that extraction risk while preserving the non-signature content recipients actually need.
Digital signature fields complicate the picture: removing a visible appearance does not always invalidate the cryptographic signature, and sometimes you must keep one version fully signed for records while circulating a redacted copy for display. HidePDF helps produce a visually redacted derivative for sharing; retain the authoritative signed original under your records policy.
Also redact printed names, titles, and dates adjacent to signatures when they enable impersonation. See redact signature from PDF, black out signature in PDF, and remove signature from PDF. For signature photos in JPG format, use HideShot before attaching to email.

Frequently asked questions
Will redacting a signature invalidate the contract copy?
The redacted file is a derivative for sharing. Keep the original signed PDF in your records if enforceability depends on it.
Can someone copy my signature from a PDF?
If the signature is only visually covered, yes. HidePDF burns redaction into the page to reduce extraction via copy tools.
Should I hide initials too?
Yes when initials appear on every page. They are equally reusable in forgery attempts.
Does HidePDF upload signed documents?
No. Signed PDFs are processed entirely in your browser.
