About HidePDF
Local-first PDF redaction for people who cannot risk an upload.
HidePDF is a free tool that lets you permanently black out sensitive content in PDF files—entirely inside your web browser. Names, account numbers, signatures, and other private data are burned into flattened page images so the original text cannot be recovered by copy-paste or PDF inspection.
We built HidePDF because most “online PDF editors” still send your document to a remote server. For bank statements, medical records, legal discovery, and HR files, that is an unnecessary exposure. HidePDF keeps bytes on your device from open to download.
Why browser-only matters
Browser-only processing means your PDF is loaded into memory locally, rendered locally, redacted locally, and saved locally. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and redaction still works. Open your browser’s network tab while using the tool—you should see zero outbound file uploads.
Permanent redaction matters too. Drawing a black rectangle in a typical viewer often leaves the text layer intact. HidePDF destroys that layer by rasterizing each page with your boxes baked in, then rebuilding a clean PDF.
Sister privacy tools
HidePDF focuses on PDF documents. For related workflows, we maintain two companion tools:
- HideShot.com — redact screenshots and images in the browser.
- MetadataWipe.com — strip EXIF and hidden metadata from photos before you share them.
