Most “redact PDF online” searches are not shopping for a product category. They are staring at an attachment — a statement a client emailed, a lease a roommate dropped in Drive, a medical estimate in Slack — and they need a clean copy in this session. Sessions where the unmarked original still gets forwarded
A paralegal redacts exhibit C, then uses Outlook’s Forward on the original vendor email because the thread has the context. Exhibit C on that thread is still the bank PDF. Forward the context without the attachment, or start a new message and attach only the searched export.
A tenant saves a landlord’s “please send proof of income” PDF, redacts SSNs, and then drag-drops from Downloads — where the unmarked file sorts first. Sort by date, or attach from a dedicated redacted folder.
A Slack huddle: “just forward me that PDF.” The marked-up working file is still in the composer. Working files are not exports. Only the download from this tool has burned boxes.
Forwarding mistakes that look like redaction
Forwarding a screenshot of the PDF. Screenshots keep readable text as pixels and often include the mail chrome. Load the actual PDF here.
Using the mail client’s highlight or black shape. Those are annotations. Recipients can remove them. Burn here, then attach the export.
Leaving the original in the same zip. A zip named “redacted-packet.zip” that still contains statement-original.pdf is not a redacted packet.

What if the PDF is still in Gmail or Slack and I never saved it?
Save it locally first. Browser redaction here reads a file from disk, not from the mail tab. After export, attach the new file. Do not screenshot the PDF and redact the screenshot — you want a real PDF with a destroyed text layer.
How do I stop Outlook or Gmail from attaching the unmarked original?
Rename the export obviously (invoice-redacted.pdf), compose a new message, attach from the folder you saved to, and search the attached copy before Send. Do not use “Forward” on the original thread until the unmarked attachment is removed.
