Redact Address From PDF — Free in Your Browser
Strip home or client addresses from PDFs before publishing samples or support tickets.
Addresses in PDFs can reveal home location, client sites, shelters, schools, job locations, or delivery routes. Redacting address fields is useful before posting documents publicly, opening support tickets, sharing templates, or sending forms to people who only need city-level or account-level context.
HidePDF runs entirely in your browser, which matters for publishing a sample document that should not reveal where someone lives. Your PDF never uploads to our servers; processing happens in local memory on your device. HidePDF removes street lines from leases, labels, and forms while you keep city or state if appropriate.
How HidePDF works
Load your address from
Open the redaction tool on this page and select your address from PDF. The file remains on your device—critical when publishing a sample document that should not reveal where someone lives.
Draw permanent black boxes
Click and drag over street addresses, apartment numbers, and mailing labels. Each box is burned into the rasterized page so the original text layer cannot be recovered.
Download and verify
Save the redacted PDF, then try select-all and search in a viewer. Redacted regions should not return readable text.
Guide: Redact Address From PDF
Addresses in PDFs can reveal home location, client sites, shelters, schools, job locations, or delivery routes. Redacting address fields is useful before posting documents publicly, opening support tickets, sharing templates, or sending forms to people who only need city-level or account-level context.
Addresses enable stalking and SIM-swap targeting when PDFs linger on vendor servers. HidePDF removes street lines from leases, labels, and forms while you keep city or state if appropriate.
Watch for addresses in headers repeated each page. Shipping-label photos: HideShot; JPEG scans with GPS: MetadataWipe.
Address fragments that pinpoint a person or a site
An address in a PDF is more than a street line. Unit numbers, campus building codes, shelter locations, school names paired with a homeroom, client site names, and delivery-route notes all locate someone. Redact the fragments that would let a stranger show up at a door or infer a vulnerable site, especially before a file is posted, attached to a ticket, or used as a template.
Street, apartment, ZIP, and PO box are the usual set. Also look for map callouts, property sketches with house numbers, letterhead with a home office address, shipping labels on scanned envelopes, and "service location" blocks on utility bills that differ from the mailing block. Multi-page leases reprint the premises on every rider. Pay stubs sometimes show a home address in a tiny employee block while the employer address stays in the header—those are different targets.
You can leave city or state when the recipient only needs a region. You should not leave a unique street plus a unique name. If the file is a sample for the public internet, prefer hiding the full location stack, including barcodes that encode the destination.
Campus housing and military-base lines are easy to treat as "just a building," yet a dorm name plus a room number is still a door. Assessor and listing PDFs often include a map with a house pin. If that pin is visible, boxing the typed street on the form is incomplete. Cover the figure, or drop the map page from the sharing set after you confirm the rest of the packet does not repeat the pin in a thumbnail.
Redact street lines in the on-page tool
Load the form or lease in the redaction tool below. Street lines are boxed in this tab. HidePDF never uploads location-heavy files while you cover labels and maps.
- Choose the PDF from local storage on this page.
- Box street number, street name, apartment or unit, ZIP, and PO box on every page they appear.
- Cover mailing barcodes, QR routing stickers, and map images that show the property pin.
- Check headers, footers, exhibits, and envelope scans.
- Export a sharing copy and search it for the street name, the ZIP, and the unit token.
- If a hit remains, mark the working copy and export again. Do not ship the copy that still searches.
Address-sharing jobs that still need a street blackout
Public-comment letter. City portals often publish comment PDFs. A resident may want the comment on the record without a home address harvesting. Hide the street block on the posted derivative. Leave the city if the ordinance requires a local commenter, or hide that too if the portal does not need it.
Sample lease for a listing. Agents circulate "typical paper" that started as a real executed lease. Hide the premises address, unit, and any tenant mailing address. Keep the clause set if the point is the form, not the building.
Shelter or safety-plan intake. Advocates sometimes must share a form with a benefits office without revealing a confidential address. Hide the location fields and any school or workplace that would locate the person. Leave the case identifier the office already uses.
Address mistakes that leave a location trail
Boxing the mailing block and leaving the service address. Utility and insurance PDFs split those lines. Both locate a person. Search for the street token after export, not only for the ZIP.
Leaving the barcode because it looks like decoration. Intelligent Mail and carrier QR codes often encode the delivery point. Box them with the address. A public sample with a live barcode is still a location leak.
Redacting type and ignoring a photographed envelope. A merged scan of the outside of a package is an address image. Cover the whole label, including the name line if the name plus city would still identify the household, then search the export for fragments of the street.

Frequently asked questions
How do I redact a home address but leave city or state?
Draw tight boxes around street number, street name, apartment, ZIP code, and mailing barcode while leaving city or state visible if needed. Check headers, footers, envelopes, and labels. Export a new copy and search for the street name.
Redact city but keep state?
Draw tight boxes - only expose geography you intend to disclose. City plus uncommon name or employer may still identify someone. Use the least precise location that satisfies the recipient.
Can address text remain in labels after visual masking?
Yes, shipping labels and forms often have selectable text or OCR under the page image. Search the final PDF for the street name, ZIP code, and apartment number. Also inspect barcodes because they may encode the destination.
Will mailing barcodes leak location?
Box barcodes and address blocks together - they often encode delivery addresses. QR codes, IMb barcodes, and carrier tracking labels can reveal routing or recipient data. Do not leave them visible on public samples.
What address edge cases matter for multi-page PDFs?
A cover page may be redacted while later pages repeat the same address in a footer, certification, map, or attachment. Review every page and any embedded images. Search both the exact address and partial street names after export.
